  1. "As a society we now consume more of everything. But with consumption comes waste and with waste comes responsibility." As a whole we use 5 million tons of plastic a year. Slowly but surely, we will find a 5% increase in plastic recycling each year. "Boost recycling, and stop waste going to landfill sites." Reduce Reuse Recycle Recover.

  2. After reading about marine litter I am pretty horrified at the information presented. I know that there are mounds of trash floating out in the ocean that are the size of Texas, but I did not know how much was plastic and how much of the plastic would sink. It turns out that 90% of the trash in the ocean is plastic and that 70% of that plastic will eventually sink.

Given the fact that plastics will eventually sink it is extremely important to eliminate plastics before they sink because once they do there is no retrieving them. The best way to do this is keep plastics out of the water all together, Only 20% of plastic waste actually comes from boating activities meaning that 80% is due to poor waste management on land. I think it is very important what we make companies responsible for their litter (If thats possibly) and partake in many beach clean ups while developing new waste management alternatives.
